INGSA-LAC and Universidad Autónoma de Chile, Launch Study on the Impact of Evidence-to-Policy in Chile

INGSA LAC, in partnership with the UNESCO Chair at the Universidad Autónoma de Chile, has initiated a study aimed at evaluating the impact of scientific knowledge on public policy formulation in Chile.

The primary objective of this study is to understand how scientific evidence is utilized in decision-making and policy design in the country. The research is conducted through an anonymous survey designed to gather perspectives from both decision-makers and policy formulators as well as scientists and researchers.

The survey focuses on identifying key barriers and opportunities for integrating various areas of scientific knowledge into the policy formulation process. The results of this study will provide a critical view of the current state of science advice in Chile and serve as a foundation for future initiatives aimed at improving collaboration between the scientific community and policymakers in the country. Those interested in participating in the survey can access it through the links mailed to them by INGSA LAC and the Universidad Autónoma de Chile.

This study in Chile follows the precedent set by the report titled “The Role of Scientific Knowledge in Policy Formulation in Colombia” published by INGSA LAC in 2022. This report, conducted in collaboration with the Colombian Academy of Exact, Physical, and Natural Sciences, provided a detailed analysis of the scientific advisory ecosystem in Colombia, based on a survey exploring how scientific evidence is integrated into political decision-making. The success of this study in Colombia provides a valuable precedent for the current research in Chile, similarly seeking to assess and strengthen the link between science and politics in the country.
