Hayoung (Gloria) Son
INGSA Secretariat Intern – 2023
I am a third-year student at the University of Toronto, Trinity College, currently pursuing a major in Ethics, Society & Law, with a double minor in Science, Technology & Society, and History and Philosophy of Science and Technology. My academic journey has been driven by a keen interest in exploring the ethical dimensions of emerging technologies, particularly in the realm of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning.
My focus revolves around issues of fairness, accountability, and transparency in the development and deployment of AI systems. I am passionate about understanding the ethical implications of AI and how it intersects with legal frameworks. Much of my research and coursework has centered on the dynamic relationship between AI and law, examining how these two forces can collaborate or sometimes conflict in their pursuit of responsible and safe integration into society.
This fall, I was an intern at INGSA, where I have had the invaluable opportunity to contribute to projects that expand my knowledge of science, technology, and society. Through this experience, I am gaining practical insights into the intricate interplay between ethical considerations, technological and scientific advancements, and societal impact. I am enthusiastic about leveraging my academic background and internship experience to contribute meaningfully to the responsible development and implementation of AI technologies in our ever-evolving world.
