Prof Dr Kavita Shah is a Professor at the Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development, and the Coordinator of the Mahamana Malaviya Research Centre for Ganga, River Development & Water Resource Management at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi, India. She holds a PhD in Biochemistry from BHU, and specialises in environmental biochemistry, stress physiology, and biotechnology.

Prof Shah has been in advisory roles at BHU as a director, dean, and the head of the Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development. She has published 100 papers in reputed scientific journals and has been bridging Science and Society in India, as well as working for the student-scientist-academia-industry nexus.
