Rokia Ballo
Regional Programme Officer (Europe)
Rokia (she/her) is the Regional Programme Officer for INGSA-Europe. In this role, she supports the ongoing development of the European Chapter by coordinating programmes and events, advancing priority projects that respond to emerging questions in science advice, and strengthening INGSA’s engagement with researchers and practitioners across the region. She currently supports the delivery of Chapter projects on Science Advice in Challenging Settings and Capability Building for Early and Mid-Career Researchers. Previously, she played a central role in shaping and delivering the Chapter’s pilot INCLUSIVE project, which examined the influence of language and culture on science advice in Europe and in developing Chapter activities including expert roundtables, the INCLUSIVE workshop, and the inaugural INGSA-Europe conference in 2025.
Rokia is also a PhD researcher in the Science and Technology Studies department at University College London. Her research explores how science for policy about inequalities and marginalised groups is produced in the UK and the lived experiences of expert advisors who produce this advice. Alongside her academic work Rokia has also led and worked with grassroots organisations with a focus on the equitable development, communication and use of interdisciplinary research to address social inequalities.
