On 17 December 2025, FMSTAN and the EU Ministries of Foreign Affairs Science Diplomacy and Advice Network convened a hybrid meeting in Copenhagen, bringing together participants from over 30 countries both in person and online.

The programme featured several high-level presentations exploring the intersection of science, technology, and international relations, including:

• Anne Marie Engtoft Meldgaard, Danish Tech Ambassador, on technology’s geopolitical implications and the growing influence of corporate actors in global affairs
• Ambassador Macharia Kamau of Kenya reflected on the UN 2030 Agenda, the role of AI in modern diplomacy, and the challenges facing international scientific collaboration
• Former Icelandic President, Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson addressed Arctic scientific cooperation, examining how research partnerships have navigated tensions following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

The meeting also included updates on ongoing network activities and future directions, with participants discussing how to strengthen science diplomacy coordination across ministries. The event marked important milestones, with FMSTAN approaching its 10th anniversary and the EU Network its 5th, celebrating years of fostering collaboration between science advisors and diplomats worldwide.

The event also included a site visit to the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Sweden.
