Overview:
The International Network for Governmental Science Advice (INGSA) is a collaborative platform for policy makers, practitioners, national academies, and academics to share experience, build capacity and develop theoretical and practical approaches to the use of scientific evidence in informing policy at all levels of government.
In line with this mission, INGSA occasionally offers professional development and research grants to support early-to-mid career researchers or policy practitioners in Low and Middle Income Countries. Each grant recipient is expected to manage and conduct a project that explores or advances the understanding or practice of science advice in the region.
History:
In 2018, 2019 and 2021 INGSA funded cohorts of Associate Grantees in collaboration with the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). Each year, the cohorts of researchers and policymakers had to complete individual projects tackling specific project themes.

2021 – Knowledge Associate Grantees
Covid-19 highlighted the critical nexus of evidence-into-policy. To respond to this, INGSA and IDRC have provided 18-month grants to enable INGSA Knowledge Associates to undertake deep-dive case studies on their country’s use of evidence in policy decisions related to Covid-19. This grant round had a particular focus on getting equal numbers of demand-side and supply-side actors from around the world.
2019 – Research Associate Grantees
INGSA and IDRC were excited to be able to expand the 2019 round to 7 grants. Once again, the grant round was extremely competitive and resulted in grants going to researchers in Indonesia, Chile, Pakistan, Uganda, Mexico, Ethiopia, and Ghana.
The recipients were chosen through a competitive process that attracted applications from all around the world, and the 7 selected recipients are an excellent example of the potential and scope of science/policy interface inquiry in the Global South.
2018 – Research Associate Grantees
The inaugural INGSA Associates grant round provided 6 Professional Development Grants to early-to-mid career researchers and policy practitioners in Low and Middle Income Countries.
Grants were awarded to applicants from: Nigeria, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Morocco, Indonesia and Bolivia. Projects were diverse from climate change to illegal drug control.
